Exclamation Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB - Video screen freezes, monitor turns off (orange light)

<span style="font-size: 16px"><span style="color: #FF0000">This information is outdated. Do not use.<br />If you need assistance please start a new thread.</span></span>
Hello folks.

I seem to have an annoying yet perpetual problem when playing games using my Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB video adapter.

Within playing a game for any number of minutes (happens almost everytime outside piken square with the close by charr) my display will freeze for about five seconds and then the monitor will turn off into powersafe mode (orange light). The only way to resolve is to hit the reset button on the tower. Typically I can hear the sound and music resume in these games as if the only thing that crashed is the video card (which I suppose is the problem).

This occurs with the following tested games running ATI Catalyst drivers 5.6

Counter-Strike Source
Guild Wars
Unreal Tournament 2004

This might be a problem Related to ATI's VPU Recover. Try turning this feature off and see what happens. If your sytem entirely crashes are stays frozen then it may be a sign of a GPU Lock up and hardware failure.

If not, it may still be related to VPU Recover as it function is to recover the gpu from a lock up so that you can shutdown and reboot your system. In relation to that it maybe attempting to us an unsupported mode, reolution, or refresh rate, when recovering. A Simple tool to overide the refresh rate might also solve the problem.

Please dont jump down peoples throats as the power supply could very well be it. If it cannot support the number of cards and devices Inferno has it will cause any number of problems. How many watts is your power supply? And updating your drivers is the first thing you should try. I would stick with ATI name drivers before trying out the third party Omega drivers.
